CASTLERIGG 2009

This year IMPACT youth group attended Castlerigg for their annual stay. The weekend was themed as “identity” chosen by the young people. After arriving late afternoon on Friday 2nd October the group settled in and joined in a short reflection organised by members of the group. Saturday began with a workshop expressing others identity, each of us were given a famous identity and had to silently act out who we were. This brought lots of laughter to the group. The workshop concluded with each of us making an ID card, and sharing our facts and talent with the group. This helped everyone get to know each other, and become closer friends. The following workshop was based on our own identities and what we hoped our future path of life would be. After spending time thinking about the future, we each thought about the problems that might prevent us from reaching our goals. We noted them down and then using scissors destroyed them and threw them into a bin, showing that we can over come troubles in our path of life. As a group we prepared mass, which was later celebrated by Father Bernard. Sunday morning began with breakfast, and shortly after the final workshop of the weekend began, playing games describing our own identities. Followed by a big game of “guess who?” The weekend concluded with a discussion over fundraising events and also workshops that would be held by IMPACT youth group in the future.

On the 2nd of October 2009 IMPACT! Youth Group made our way to Castlerigg for our annual weekend away. We based our weekend on us and our ‘identity’ which made us think about who we really are. So on the Friday afternoon 20 of us including Terry Mattinson and Father Bernard Woods, as our Youth Leader, made our way up the Castlerigg Manor.
During the weekend there were many workshops that we, the youth, have made up and put on for the rest of the group. There were many workshops from icebreakers, games on identity, to where we want to head in life. Some things that came out of the workshops was understanding on how we recognise people and how we judge them and we learnt much about ourselves. During the Saturday afternoon we had out own free time to do as we wish and so many of us walked down into Keswick trying hard to avoid the rain, it didn’t work too well. When we arrived back we had mass preparation and a mass on Saturday night which played an important part in our weekend away.
Our weekend was a real success, as always, as within hours of meeting we all were talking to each other even if we didn’t know each other before. There wasn’t a dull moment in our weekend away there was always a game of sardines happening or just being able to sit and chat to new people was great too. We had an amazing time and I’m sure that we all can’t wait to be back there next year. Thank you all who took part!

CASTLERIGG 2008

On the 3rd-5th October, the Impact Youth Group had their annual residential at Castlerigg Manor. The years theme was ‘Being Young’, this was shown in the workshops which were created by the young people.
Friday evening started with a workshop on dreams; this included activities on people we are inspired by, films/music related to dreams, and teamwork guiding people around a course blindfolded. The next workshop was on how the media influences young people, this included topics on teenage pregnancy and knife crime. The workshop represented how young people can be stereotyped. The members of the group who went on the diocesan trip to Lourdes gave a talk on their experience of Lourdes, which concluded with a question and answer time. The Saturday afternoon consisted of a damp walk into Keswick, were the group got the afternoon of free-time. During the evening, we celebrated mass with Fr. Bernard Woods, the impact youth group’s chaplain. In the evening, the group had the opportunity to get to know more about each other, and represent people’s interest with art, when the group made a banner about the weekend. Sunday morning’s workshop was about stereotyping, and how young people don’t specifically fall into a certain stereotype. The weekend concluded with a discussion about the future of the group.
The group would like to thank the Castlerigg Staff, Terry Mattinson, Fr. Bernard and all the young people who made the weekend possible.
